How it works

  1. Sign up

    Sign-up by clicking on the "Sign-Up Now" button on the bottom of this page. Fill in the Personal Information form. An email address is required for registration, as we will primarily contact our customers with updates through this email address. During the periods when local produce is sparse, we suppliment the boxes with high quality, imported organic produce from California and Mexico through a reputable, ethical wholesaler in Vancouver. Choose from the 4 box options as a base for your regular order. A $10 Administration Fee applies to all subscriptions to cover the cost of reusable rubbermaid totes

    Tips
    • Your e-mail address will be your login username for future visits to the market.
    • Make sure your address is complete, and select the area you live in under 'Route'.
    • If you are a home delivery customer, please use the 'Directions' field to tell us how to find your house — how to access a locked gate, what your house looks like, where to leave the box, etc.
  2. Choose a box type and a schedule

    Choose the frequency of box that works best for you – either weekly, every two weeks or monthly. By committing to regular orders, you allow us to plan crops with farms and supply a more consistent selection of local produce. Each year we plan with farmers to figure out how much they can sell to us, and having a consistent clientele allows more accurate planning. You can change your schedule, but we ask you to try to minimize changes. Once you sign up, you don't need to place an a fresh order every week; you will automatically receive your delivery according to the schedule you chose when you made your initial order. However, you can modify your order any time you like.

    Each box contains a variety of local produce, and we give preference to certified organic items. Choose from the 4 box sizes and select the one that works best for you. If you are on a restricted diet, a gardener or a picky eater, you can customize your order by choosing the Empty Customizable Box. There is a $4 charge for customizing the box contents.

What is our CSA Box?

Our CSA box is a seasonal mixed hamper of vegetables and fruits sourced firstly from our own Organic Farm in Summerland, then from other local farmers. During the shoulder seasons when local produce is sparse, we import quality organic produce from further afield, which helps us extend our delivery period. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Traditionally the season's hampers are paid in advance by customers, at the beginning of the growing season, helping farmers plan efficiently, reducing waste and over production, while ensuring freshness and a quality experience for customers. CSA boxes are a popular emerging model that helps small scale organic farmers stay viable in the face of global systems. CSA models help to guarantee the farmers a customer base for their products, and cover expenses throughout the growing season, not only when the product is sold at the end of the year. While much the same in spirit and service offered, we differ in the payment schedule. We understand that it is difficult for many of our customers to pay up front for a full season, and there are occasions when you do not wish to receive your regular delivery, so we suggest that you pay as far ahead as you are willing and able! We do ask that you always keep current!

Box Options

Choose from the 4 Box size options on the sign-up form

  • $4 Empty Customizable Box (you select everything you want for each order online, perfect for gardeners or picky eaters! $4 fee for custom ordering, full price of box will vary according to the contents.)
  • $25 Singles CSA Box (great for 1 or 2 conservative but dedicated local eaters!)
  • $40 Regular CSA Box (perfect for a small family or (single) couple)
  • $60 Family CSA Box (you are vegetarian and probably have teenagers!)

Sample of what you receive

The selections for the week are always changing according to the season. The boxes are typically 70% veggies and 30% fruits. A recipe sheet accompanies your order to suggest ways of using the more unusual items. A sample $40 box in August might include:

  • 2lbs - Red Haven Peaches
  • 1lb - Plums
  • 1lb - Onions
  • 1lb - Patty Pan Squash
  • 1lb - Green Beans
  • Bunch Carrots
  • Bunch Beets
  • 1 Eggplant
  • 1 Bag Mixed Salad
  • 1 Pint of Cherry Tomatoes
  • 1 Bunch Basil

Order extra Grocery Items

You can also custom order grocery items to be added to your CSA veggie box. Select items for your order on the Online Market, by logging into your account and ordering before Sunday Midnight. These items will only stay on your order for 1 time, unless you choose them to be recurring items. For example, if you order a loaf of bread, it will only come with the next delivery. If you order a loaf of bread, and select the recurring icon beside the item, it will continue to be ordered automatically with your order with every delivery, until you remove the recurring icon.


Order Deadlines

Orders are processed on Mondays, and so to avoid disappointment, we have an order deadline of Sunday midnight for all orders expected during that week. Any orders received after Sunday night will be delivered the following week in around 10 days time. Please note that orders are set up to be recurring, set to a frequency that you prefer upon sign-up. If you would like to change this setting, please let me know via email by Sunday evening.

Payment Options

WE ACCEPT CASH, CHEQUE OR ONLINE BY SECURE PAYPAL SERVICE VIA OUR WEBSITE. PAYMENTS MADE ONLINE ARE PROCESSED USING THE SECURE PAYPAL SERVICE. A 3% SURCHARGE FEE APPLIES TO ALL CREDIT CARD OR PAYPAL PAYMENTS' PAYMENTS. PLEASE MAKE ALL CHEQUES PAYABLE TO LOCALMOTIVE.

Delivery Options & Schedule

Your purchase of $40 or more includes free delivery to your office or home.

DELIVERY IS ON TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY OR FRIDAY DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE. WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR DELIVERY ROUTE THE WEBSITE WILL TELL YOU WHICH DAY TO EXPECT YOUR ORDER. TIMING IS DIFFICULT TO PREDICT AS THE ROUNDS CHANGE SIGNIFICANTLY FROM WEEK TO WEEK, AND SOMETIMES DELIVERIES DO RUN LATE INTO THE EVENING – ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER.

Can I place my Box on hold?

You can place your box on hold, before the Sunday midnight order deadline, by logging in to your account, and going to the Online Market. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and look for the option to Place my Order on Hold… set the dates accordingly, and make sure that the resume date is set before the Sunday midnight order deadline for the week you would like to resume.

Delivery of boxes to homes and offices

Ideally you'll be in to accept delivery and refrigerate any perishable items immediately. If you are not in, it would be helpful if you could leave us out a cooler , somewhere cool and shady if possible (the north side of a building is best), so indicate where that might be in the 'directions' box of the signup form. Your order is delivered in a rubbermaid bin. Unless you leave us out a cooler, we will leave the bin at your home. We expect to exchange it with the next bin delivered, so please leave it out for us. We keep a record of bin returns, if you do not return your bin, there will be an $8 charge. This will be refunded when the bin is returned. Delivery to offices is also available, so on the sign up form, please enter the address for the office where you would like to have the delivery made,instead of entering the home address.

Credits for missing items

Occasionally we are unable to supply you with an item that you have ordered, due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case, a credit will be applied to your account for the appropriate amount, and will automatically be deducted from your next order. Accounts are credited accordingly by Friday evening each week. If you do not see a credit on your account, please let us know and we will check into it.
